To answer part two of your question, according to the College Football Data Warehouse, Purdue lost twice by 56 points while scoring 0 points: To Chicago (IL) in 1907 and to the Iowa Hawkeyes in 1922.
I think it may be fair to assume those are the worst losses anyhow, if you define “worst” as the biggest point differential.
