This is happening to so many mid-major programs right now. I go to Fresno State and it has the same problem. Memphis is right in the middle of SEC region and Fresno State is in the middle of PAC 10 country and we’re constantly losing talent to USC, UCLA, and CAL. We have players from Fresno that want to play at USC and UCLA and not even for their hometown university. I’m sure many coaches from mid-major programs are feeling this right now. fans just need to step up and support no matter what

Everything he said was true.
Unless RC and everyone else is fired, and the program is completely rebuilt from the ground up, with younger staff, the football program will continue to be the gutter shit it has been since the 1950s.

y he didn’t used this kind of anger while he was coaching the time? Tommy just can’t coach and recruit at all….tommy should be happy he doesn’t need to coach but still get pay $3millions.

Why are the Vols better than the Memphis Tigers right now for Football. The press doesn’t knock them when things don’t go their way, and tons of sturdy fans.

Don’t get me wrong. I love it in Abiline but Tommy, you sure would have a lot more credibility if you didn’t throw your assistants under the bus all the time. Would’ve loved to see that fire in the belly passionate speech defending me rather than canning me at mid-season. I’m not mad. Things worked out for me just fine. It just seems like you care about protecting yourself and your job only.

Next to Danny Ford, Coach West was and still is my favorite Clemson coach of all-time! If Clemson is smart, maybe they’ll hire him in administration,

Memphis doesn’t support anything. Also, it is very hard to get players to come to Memphis because of that very reason.

I’m a Clemson Tiger fan and Tommy West is as fine a man and football coach as you’ll ever find. He wasn’t successful as a coach at Clemson but he is remembered here with great fondness. Memphis administration and fans would do good to listen very carefully to what he has to say about your program and follow his advice. Best of luck to you, Coach West, wherever you land.

I am an Alum and I agree that the football program does not get the support it needs to be successful. The man went to 5 bowl games and we run himout of town. No one else has done that at Memphis!!!!

As a Tiger and alumn I say just get rid of the football program and focus all the money into Basketball program. Then maybe they’d let us get out of stupid C-USA.

Coach West was spot on!!! If Memphis would put the same effort into their football program as they do their men’s basketball program, they would be at the top of Conference USA. .
